The Brittonic prefix 'Aber-' means 'mouth', and was attached to names of rivers. Abergeldie Bridge is in County Aberdeen and spans the River Dee, two miles west of Crathie and Balmoral Castle. An earlier structure was rebuilt in 1885. The melody was composed by Cape Breton fiddler and composer Dan R. MacDonald (1911-1976).
