MERRY ANNIE. Scottish, Reel. A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). The melody appears in the Drummond Castle Manuscript (in the possession of the Earl of Ancaster at Drummond Castle), 1734, inscribed "A Collection of the best Highland Reels written by David Young, W.M. & Accomptant. It consists of sections of six measures each, along with several variation sets. Matt Seattle ["http://www.asaplive.com/archive/detail.asp?id=R0315405] finds the tune cognate with William Vickers' "Scotch Lilt" and Robert Bremner's "Yeal Yeal."
