MONTEZUMA. American, Hornpipe. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. A title probably inspired by the Mexican-American War. The tune was attributed to a veteran army musician named J.L. Blatchley, Co. E. 2nd N.Y. Heavy Artillery, by A.F. Hopkins, editor of the American Veteran Fifer (1905); but whether he was the composer or the contributor is unknown (see also "J.L. Blatchley Banter").
