HARE IN THE CORN [2] (An Gearrfiad 'San Arbar). AKA and see "Old Hag in the Corner (The)." Irish (originally), American; Jig. D Mixolydian (also in A mixolydian). Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCC. Not apparently related to "Hare in the Corner (1). Captain Francis O'Neill wrote (in Irish Folk Music, 1910) that he took this tune from "an American collection," presumably the version from Ryan's Mammoth Collection, in which the notatation is identical (Carolan, 1997). Breathnach (1985) states that O'Neill's second part does not go with the "Hare in the Corn" tune. Pete Stewart found a cognate melody in a manuscript dating from 1760 under the title "Whore in the Corner (The)." See also the related "Art O'Keeffe's (1)."
