NED KENDALL'S HORNPIPE [2]. AKA and see "Reefer's Hornpipe," "Reel du Chauffeur." American, Hornpipe. F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB (Cole): AA'BB' (Kerr). Perhaps distantly related to the popular and widespread "Ned Kendall's (1)." Ned Kendall was a famous 19th century coronet player, although it has also been rumored that was also the name of a competition-winning African-American step dancer of the same era. This is perhaps the version that was in the repertoire of Maine fiddler Mellie Dunham; the elderly Dunham was Henry Ford's champion fiddler in the late 1920's. See also O'Neill's hornpipe "Swinging Around the Circle" and the Quèbècois "Reel des Chantiers."
