NEWCASTLE HORNPIPE [2]. AKA and see "Kirkgate Hornpipe (2)." English, Hornpipe. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB (Kershaw): AABB (Gibbons). The tune is among those in the 19th century manuscripts of Joseph Kershaw and Joshua Gibbons. Kershaw was a fiddle player who lived in the remote area of Slackcote, Saddleworth, North West England, who compiled his manuscript from 1820 onwards, according to Jamie Knowles. Papermaker and musician Joshua Gibbons (1778-1871) lived in the village of Tealby, near Market Rasen, Lincolnshire Wolds, and compiled his manuscript 1823-26.
