OÍCHE NOLLAG (Christmas Eve). AKA and see "Christmas Eve (3)," "Strawberry Blossom (2) (The)," "There's nae luck aboot the hoose (1)," "There's nae luck aboot the hoose, there's nae luck ava (1)." Irish, Single Jig. D Major. Standard tuning. AAB. Breathnach (1963) thinks the tune originated outside of Ireland and points out it is almost identical to the Scots "There's nae luck about the house." Petrie prints a version of the melody as "Strawberry Blossom (2) (The)," and the first strain of "Christmas Eve" is the same as his "Mill Steam" and "Ghile Beag lé m'Anam Thú," as well as the untitled airs No. 154 and No. 258. Joyce prints the second strain in his tune "Irish Minuet (An)." See also the related reels "Boys of Ballynahinch (The)" and "Strawberry Blossom (2) (The)."
