DERMOT O'DOWD (Diarmaid Ua Dubda). Irish, Slow Air (3/4 time). A Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). One part (O'Neill/Krassen): AB (Johnson, O'Neill/1850). The melody has been attributed to harper Turlough O'Carolan (1670-1738)--Francis O'Neill (1903), for one, included it in his section of Carolan compositions. However, according to authority Donal O'Sullivan (1958), the air is not a composition of the bard. The melody originally was collected and printed by Bunting (1796 and again in 1809).
