Back to Highland Lament (The)

HIGHLAND LAMENT, THE. Irish, Reel. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. A reel from the music manuscript collection of Abbeylara, Co. Longford, fiddler Larry Smyth, who compiled it around the year 1900. Researcher Conor Ward finds a similar version in another local music manuscript, that of Patrick O'Farrell of Aughadowry, Ballinamuck, Co. Longford, compiled in the 1870's, under the title "Highland Bonnet (The)." Both tunes, he finds, are cognate with "Countess of Sutherland (1)."
