OLD MOTHER GOOSE. AKA and see "Irish Jig (5), "Lep Up." Irish (?), Slip Jig. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. See also the related "Don't Leave Me Alone." The melody appears as an untitled jig in the mid-19th century collections of John Clinton, P.M. Haverty, and R.M. Levey. Researcher Conor Ward found a version of the melody in Fleischmann's Sources of Irish Traditional Music, c. 1600-1855, vol. 2 (New York, 1998, No. 5294), sourced to T.S. Cooke's opera Mother Goose (Dublin, c. 1810), which explains the title in Ryan's Mammoth Collection. The melody was used in the Overture. Ward also finds the tune in the c. 1900 music manuscript collection of Larry Smyth, a fiddler from Abbeylara, County Longford, under the title "Spree (The)."
