WEEPING WILLOW. USA, Alabama. American, Song Air (whole time). The sentimental song was recorded by Alabama fiddler Charlie Stripling (1896-1966) and his brother and guitarist Ira (1898-1967) in 1934 (Honking Duck gives the date as 1929). It was only one of two numbers with vocals the two recorded ("Railroad Bum", the flip side, being the other). However, it had earlier been recorded by Georgia fiddler Earl Johnson (with Emmett Bankston on banjo, and probably Lee "Red" Henderson on guitar) in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1928, for OKeh Records, although the side was unissued.
