The melody appears in a few American musicians' manuscript collections of the post Colonial era, including those of John and William Pitt Turner (1788, Norwich, Conn.), Timothy Swan (1775, Northfield, Mass.), and Silas Dickenson (1800, Amherst, Mass.).
