POOR IRISH BOY. Irish. This melody must have impressed Classical composer George Friederich Handel during his nine month stay in Ireland as he copied it out in musical setting in a c. 1742 MS book (as "Der arme Irische Junge") which was in the Fitzwilliam Museum at the turn of the (20th) century (Grattan Flood, A History of Irish Music , 1906). Flood thinks he probably heard it in Dublin.
