POSTMAN'S KNOCK [1]. English, Morris Dance Tune (6/8 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. Collected from the village of Adderbury, Oxfordshire, England by Janet Blunt who noted it from the last of the old dancers, William Walton, in 1917. The following bit of verse was sung during the dance:
Every morning as true as the clock
Someone hears the postman's knock. ... (x2)
The Adderbury morris tradition has a number of songs collected from it, for the morris team at the turn of the 19th century was also a singing club.
