PORTUGESE FANDANGO, THE. English, Waltz. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCC. A generically titled tune that perhaps has its English association via the British alliance with Portugal during the Napoleonic Wars, when Portugal was key to prosecuting the Peninsular Campaign. A fandango is a Spanish or Portuguese triple-time dance, but is usually a lively one (and sometimes considered "vulgar") of which there are many varieties.
