PREACHER'S FAVORITE. AKA - "Ladies Fancy (4)." Old-Time, Breakdown. D Major. ADae tuning (fiddle). AABBCD. The tune is a member of the "Rye Straw" tune family, widely disseminated in the South and Mid-West. As musicologist Alan Jabbour points out (in notes to Henry Reed's "Rye Straw" at the Library of Congress [1]), the tune family is "characterized by an oscillation between keys, usually A and D, so that one is often uncertain which key is the true tonal center."
