CORONATION DAY, THE. English, Country Dance Tune (2/2 time). F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). ABB. The tune was printed by Henry Playford and was new to the 10th edition of the Dancing Master (London, 1698). It was retained in all subsequent editions of the long-running series through the 18th, printed in 1728 (by John Young, heir to the Playford publishing establishment). "Coronation Day" can also be found in Walsh's Compleat Country Dancing Master, editions of 1718, 1731 and 1754.
