PUNCHEON FLOOR [2]. Old-Time, Breakdown. USA, Mississippi. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. A very different tune than "Puncheon Floor (1)." During the 78 RPM era Arthur Smith of Tennessee recorded a version the reel as "Lost Train Blues," and Hoyt Ming and his Pepsteppers waxed it as "White Mule" (a simplified setting with a third part added). The coarse strain is very similar to a variation used for "Katy Hill."

Source for notated version: Hardy Sharp [Phillips].

Printed sources: Phillips (Traditional American Fiddle Tunes), 1994; p. 190.

Recorded sources: Mississippi Department of Archives and History AH-002, Hardy C. Sharp - "Great Big Yam Potatoes: Anglo-American Fiddle Music from Mississippi" (1985. Originally recorded in 1939 for the Library of Congress).
