NEW ROAD TO BERWICK, THE. AKA and see "Barwick Billy." English, Triple Hornpipe. F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). ABCD. In this version, from Henry Atkinson's 1694 MS. [1], the harmonic outline is reversed in relation to the other versions, i.e. the basic progression is I,II,I,I, rather than I,I,I,II" (Matt Seattle). It is an early version of "Go to Berwick Johnny." Atkinson was a fiddler from Northumberland.
