Tune properties and standard notation
DOWN THE RIVER [2] (Sios an Abainn). Irish (originally), Canadian; Double Jig. Canada, Cape Breton. G Major (O'Neill): G Mixolydian (Cranford). Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB (O'Neill): AA'BB (Cranford). The tune was played by influential Cape Breton fiddler Angus Chisholm, which popularized the jig with musicians on the island, albeit altered to the mixolydian mode.
