HONORABLE MISS H. ELLIOT'S REEL. Scottish, Reel. F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. The reel was composed by John(ny) Pringle (born c. 1770), and appears in his first collection, A Collection of Strathspeys, Reels & Jigs (Edinburgh, 1801). The volume was dedicated to Miss Elliot, a member of a prominent Borders family, and the tune (along with the strathspey "Honorable Miss Elliot") was given pride of place in the first page. Earl and Lady Minto had a daughter, Harriet Elliot, born in 1790 at their estate of Minto in Roxburghshire, and perhaps she is the person of the title (see also Annotation:Lady Minto's Favourite). See also Pringle's "Honorable Miss H. Elliot's Dance" in his second collection (c. 1805).
