THIRD BUFFS MARCH, THE. AKA and see "Captain Reid's March," "Dorsetshire March (The)." Irish, March (cut time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Originally an English march, published by Charles and Samuel Thompson in London in 1765 in their Compleat Collection of 200 Favourite Country Dances, vol. 2 as "Captain Reed's Delight." The Buffs, or the 3rd Regiment of Foot, was a line infantry regiment of the British Army and one of the oldest, dating to 1572. They were originally raised in the English county of Kent.
