NIGHT DANCE, THE. AKA and see "Fitzpatrick's Jig," "Jackson's Night Cap," "Piper's Welcome (The)," "Strike the Gay Harp," "Strike the Young Harp." Irish, Double Jig. C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCC. The tune is most often known nowadays by the title "Strike the Gay Harp." However, it was first published by Samuel Lee in Dublin c. 1774 in Jackson's Celebrated Irish Tunes (reprinted in 1790) as "Jackson's Night Cap" attributed to the legendary uilleann piper Walker (or Walter) 'Piper' Jackson.
