X:1 % T:Patternelly M:2/4 L:1/8 R:Country Dance N:Gilchrist ms. (late Georgian?) (from the North of Scotland) N:Notes with dots before them indicate the beat the feet are to N:be crossed and recrossed during the dance, not a staccato note. N:"A pretty country-dance, probably belonging like "The Triumph" to the N:Regency period, but apparently better known in Scotland than in England, N:appears in a Scots MS. as "Patternelly" [Petronella?] ("Patronello" in another MS). N:It was a longways dance, and began with a neat figure by the two top couples, N:in which the feet were crossed and recrossed in exact time to the notes N:I have marked in the first two bars. I do not think it has ever been revived, like the "Triumph"."
