Tune properties and standard notation

ESSENCE OF CINNAMON SEED. American, ("Slow") Dance Tune. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'B. There are several "Essence..." tunes printed in William Bradbury Ryan's Mammoth Collection (1883). The word 'essence' being used as a cognate term for 'humors' or 'fancy', referring to a piece of music. As a group, the "Essence..." tunes appear to be vehicles for a stage clog or buck-and-wing type of performance, particular to the 1870's and 1880's.
