BLACK HORSE [1], THE. Irish, Hornpipe. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The first strain has similarities with "Constitution Hornpipe [1]", printed in Ryan's Mammoth Collection and Kerr's Merry Melodies, both of which predate Frank Roche's 1913 collection. The tune presents few of the more typical Irish style characteristics, and may have been imported.
Printed source: Roche Collection, 1913; vol. 2, No. 237, p. 19.
