'Hawkie' is pet name in Scots dialect for a cow with a white face.
Ca' Hawkie, ca' Hawkie,
Ca' Hawkie through the water,
Hawkie is a sweir beast,
And Hawkie winna wade the water.
Hawkie is a bonny cow,
Though she's loth to wade the water;
While she waits the work'll stand,

"Lord Elphinston" is given as an alternate title by Stewart-Robertson in the Athole Collection, but it is not Ducan MacIntyre's strathspey "Lord Elphinstone."
