ARDOCH HOUSE. Scottish, Strathspey. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. Composed by Magdalene Stirling (1765–1846), the youngest daughter of Sir William Stirling, 4th Baronet of Ardoch, and his wife Christian Erskine. Magdalene's tunes were often published by others, with and without attribution (sometimes to "biography:Miss Stirling of Ardoch") prior to her own publication in 1812. Her home, Ardoch House, was built in 1793 for William Stirling, at Ardoch, Perthshire, but has since been demolished [1]. Nearby is the former site of one of the largest Roman camps in Scotland.
