BOG OF ALLEN [3], THE (Móin almhaine). AKA and see "Banks of Allan (The)." Irish, Jig. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody appears under this title in the mid-19th century music manuscripts of Church of Ireland cleric James Goodman (1828-1896). Goodman was an Irish speaker and an uilleann piper who collected from tradition in Cork and elsewhere in Munster, although he obtained tunes from manuscripts and printed sources as well. See also Scottish versions under the title "Banks of Allan (The)."

Source for notated version: a music manuscript of one P. Enright, Áth Trasna, County Cork, dated February 1862; loaned to Breathnach by Maurice O'Keeffe (Kishkeam, County Cork) [Breathnach].

Printed sources: Breathnach (CRÉ V), 1999; No. 23, p. 14. Shields/Goodman (Tunes of the Munster Pipers), 1998; No. 49.
