FOLLOW ME DOWN TO CARLOW [4]. AKA and see "Bank of Ireland (1) (The)," "First Day in Ireland (The)." Irish, Reel. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. Researcher Conor Ward finds the tune under this title in the c. 1885 music manuscript collection of fiddler Francis Reynolds of Gaugue, Ballinamuck, County Longford. It is a different tune than is usually associated with the "Follow Me Down to Carlow" title. Ward also finds a cognate version in the c. 1883 music copybook of Gortletteragh, Co. Leitrim, musician Stephen Grier as "First Day in Ireland (The)," and in O'Neill's collections as "Bank of Ireland (1) (The)."
