MAGIC FLUTE. Scottish, Hornpipe. F Major (Kerr): G Major (Miller). Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. According to fiddler and researcher Lisa Ornstein, the melody was adapted from Mozart's famous opera Die Zauberflute (The Magic Flute), and is the melody Papageno plays on his magic bells. Lisa says: "Like a number of themes from this most popular opera, Paganeo's magic bells melody (often referred to as "the glockenspiel tune" because of the instrument which leads the melody in the opera) has, over the past 200+ years, been adapted and scored from everything from music boxes to piano solos" (FIDDLE-L, Aug. 12, 2006).
