MAURICE CASEY'S FANCY (Roga Maurais/Muiris Uí Catasaig). AKA and see "Conneberry Reel," "Cottage in the Grove (1) (The)," "McGovern's Favourite," "Rogha Mhic Shamhráin," "Village in the Grove (The)." Irish, Reel. A Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB (O'Neill/1850): AA'BB' (O'Neill/Krassen). The tune was recorded by Boston button accordion player Joe Derrane under this title on one of his solo 78 RPM recordings. See also the similar-sounding "Coen's Memories."
Source for notated version: "Casey" [O'Neill]. Maurice Casey was originally from County Kerry, and is mentioned as among the Chicago musicians who contributed tunes for O'Neill's Dance Music of Ireland (1907) in the introduction to that work. This is the only tune to bear his name, although he may be the "Casey" who is credited as the source of several tunes in the O'Neill volumes.
