MISS KETTY HALL. AKA - "Miss Katty Hall's Jig." AKA and see "Miss Katie Hall's Reel (2)." Scottish, Jig. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA’BB’CC’AA’DD’AA’EE’AA’FF’AA’BB’. A two-part tune with four variation sets, in between which Gow directs the playing of the first part of the melody. Gow’s notation seems to indicated that a drone ‘A’ note be played at various times throughout the tune, esp. in the 2nd (‘B’) part. The variation sets printed by Gow are attributed to Biography:Sir Alexander Don and Mr. Nisbet of Dirleton, both amateur gentlemen fiddlers. The tune appears as "Miss Katie Hall's Reel (2)" in the music manuscript collection of Rev. R. Harrison (Cumbria, 1815). James Aird printed a tune called "Miss Katie Hall's Reel (1)" in his Selections of Scotch, English, Irish and Foreign Airs, vol. 1 (1782), presumably for the same individual.
