POOR MAN'S DUMP. English, Air (3/2 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. A lute tune ("Power manes doumpe") from the early 16th century from a manuscript by an unknown author, now in the British Museum (the ms. contains single tenor vocal lines for songs, virginal pieces, and a few lute tunes). Chappell (1859) says the dump was generally a slow dance air, although Grattan Flood (1906) disagrees with this assessment (see notes for "annotation:Peg a Ramsay" and "annotation:Dumps (The)). Chappell admits that "noting exact seems to be known about it."
