The tune is derivative of the Irish "Boys of Bluehill (The)," or "Beaux of Oak Hill (1)." A similar Ozark region tune, points out Drew Beisswenger (2008), is Vesta Johnson's "<incipit title="load:Lady" width=850 link="https://tunearch.org/wiki/She oughta been a Lady">She oughta been a Lady</incipit>."
