SLOW MARCH 42nd. English (?), March (4/4 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The ‘A’ part is 12 measures long, the ‘B’ part 8. The loose page containing this printed melody from Riley’s Easy Flute Duets (New York, early 19th cent.) was among the music manuscripts of Setauket, Long Island, painter and fiddler William Sidney Mount, who was taught to play both flute and fiddle in New York City at the home of his uncle, an excellent amateur musician and composer. The title may refer to the British 42nd Regiment, the Black Watch.
