"The Punch is Done" is a jig published in Cuminestown, Aberdeenshire, postmaser, fiddler-composer and dancing master William Christie's 1820 collection. Christie notes that the tune was "Old" at the time, and says it was "communicated" to him by "Mr. Jaffrey Senior." "<a href="/w/index.php?title=Gather_and_Go&action=edit&redlink=1" class="new" title="Gather and Go (page does not exist)">Gather and Go</a>" is another jig in Christie'scollection that was obtained from Jaffrey Sr. The name Jaffray/Jaffrey was a fairly common surname in Cuminestown Parish, Monquhitter, Aberdeenshire, the home of William Christie, and there is a record of a William Jaffray who was a teacher of music there who was a contemporary of Christie.
