REEL TARTES AUX POMMES (Apple Pie Reel). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. "Tartes aux pommes" is another tune that uses a "floating" first stain that can be traced back to the first strain of "Aldridge's Hornpipe (1)," named for the famous latter 18th century stage dancer, Richard Aldridge. The strain was used in a number of tunes, each with different second strains, including "King of all Reels," "Leviathan Hornpipe," "Prairie Hornpipe," "Big Mountain Hornpipe" and others. Allard researcher Jean Duval finds "Reel tartes aux pommes" cognate with "Lardner's Reel (1)" in Ryan's Mammoth Collection (1883), but here too, Allard's version of "Lardner's Reel," printed in Ryan's Mammoth Collection (Boston, 1883).
