'TOMMY PEOPLES’ JIG' [2]. AKA and see “Gráinne’s Jig,” “Redican’s Jig (1).” Irish, Jig (6/8 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCC. The alternate title, “Gráinne’s Jig,” is the name of Donegal fiddler Tommy Peoples’ youngest daughter, and the tune is usually attributed to him. Peoples himself claimed composition, although it is attributed to Boston accordion player Joe Derrane on his 1996 recording "Return to Innis Mor," where it appears under the title "Papa's Joy." This would seem to be a mistake, however, and likely the tune was associated by Derrane with Peoples and his daughter, only the correct title was not remembered. Karen Tweed (1994) remarks the tune was “a once very popular accordion competition tune.”
