MISS MARY GARDEN OF TROUP'S REEL. Scottish, Jig (6/8 time). E Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. "Miss Mary Garden of Troup's Reel" was composed by Edinburgh fiddler-composer biography:Robert Mackintosh (c. 1745-1808) and printed in his Fourth Collection of New Strathspey Reels (c. 1804). Despite the word 'reel' in the title, the tune is in jig (6/8) time, with the word 'reel' in this case referring to a intertwining ('reeling') dance movement.

Mary Garden (1780-) was the daughter of Peter Garden and Katherine Garden (née Balneaes) of Troup and Delgaty. She married Thomas Burnett of Park as his second wife in 1806. See also biography:Robert Petrie's "Miss Mary Garden (Delgaty's) Reel."
