The first strain is shared with "Mathewson's Hornpipe" (see note for "annotation:Mathewson's Hornpipe" for more). Curiously, Elias Howe printed a cognate version of the melody on the same page as "Portsmouth Hornpipe (2)," called "Prince Regent's Hornpipe," which, although a bit more 'notey' is the same tune.
