BEDEAU DE l'ENFER, LE. AKA - "Devil's Sexton." French-Canadian, Reel. C Major/Mixolydian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'BB'. A 'crooked' tune. Guy Bouchard relates the story that Landry's source, itinerant fiddler Thomas "Quêteaux" Pomerleau, once had to promise a priest he would discard his fiddle in his wood stove, in order to receive absolution. Pomerleau did, and, having received the rite, pulled his instrument out once more having taken the precaution of never lighting the stove in the first place! Landry also called the tune "Devil's Sexton." See other Pomerleau tunes: "Marche a Quêteux Pomerleau," "Reel du gaucher."
