This "Eighth of January" tune, simplified to the point of unrecognizability from the usual breakdown that goes by this name, was played at a slower, more leisurely tempo by the original artists, the Arkansas Barefoot Boys. The group, consisting of fiddler Cyrus Futrell, along with harmonica players James Leroy Sims and William Campbell, and guitar player Hubert Haines, travelled to Memphis, Tennessee, in February, 1928, to
