HONEYSUCKLE [1]. AKA - "Honeysuckle Rag," "Honeysuckle Blues." American, Country Rag. USA, North Carolina. "Honeysuckle" was recorded by the North Carolina string band Charlie Poole and the North Carolina Ramblers in New York in January, 1930. For that particular recording date the group consisted of Poole (1892-1931) on vocals and banjo, guitarist and singer Roy Harvey (1892-1958) and fiddler Odell Smith (1908-1959). The record label credits Poole and Harvey, but not Smith.
The tune title is sometimes confused with a ragtime piece called "Honeysuckle Rag," composed in 1911 by George Botsford [1] (d. 1949), famous as for his numerous ragtime compositions and as a bandleader. However Botsford's composition is musically unrelated.
