The melody can be found under the "Stanhope in Weardale" title in Northumbrian musician William Vickers 1770 music manuscript collection (p. 80). Stanhope in Weardale is the name of a town in Northumberland in the upper valley of the River Wear. The tune is also found in Northumberland manuscript collections by the alternate titles.
