SHEGUIANDAH BAY. AKA and see "Manitoulin Island," “Perth Waltz.” Canadian, Waltz (3/4 time). Canada, Ontario. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. "Sheguiandah Bay" ('Shagoonda') was composed by fiddler and Ontario Provincial Police Officer Don Pettigrew (1939-1999) who was born in Caistor Centre in the Niagara Peninsula. Heused to compete in the Perth, Ontario, fiddle contest where he played the tune and where it was picked up by other musicians (hence the alternate title). It is often locally paired with another of Pettrigrew’s waltzes, “Wilhemine's Rose.”
