TIVIOT BRIDGE.AKA and see "Pivot Brig (The)," "Teviot Brig." Scottish, Jig (6/8 time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. "Tiviot Bridge"[1] was composed by fiddler-composer Alexander Givan (1752-1803) of Kelso and issued in a small folio accompanied with several of his other compositions by the Edinburgh publishing concern of Gow & Shepherd c. 1810. It was not the first time the tune appeared in print, however, as it was included in Thomas Calvert's Collection of Marches & Quick Steps, Strathspeys & Reels (1799, p. 11, as "Tivot Bridge"). Calvert was also a musician living and working in Kelso, and presumably was well acquainted with Given.
