MOUNTAIN RANGER HORNPIPE [1]. AKA and see "Mountain Top (1)," "Quilty (The)," "Quilty Boat (The)," "Rose Bud Reel/Rosebud Reel." American, Irish, Scottish; Hornpipe. USA; New England. B Flat Major (Cole, Ford, Kerr, Miller & Perron, Tolman): D Major (Sweet). Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. William Bradbury Ryan printed directions for a dance by the same name with the tune. He also printed the tune elsewhere in his 1883 collection as "Rosebud Reel," but the tune under that title was first printed in Rhode Island musician George Saunders' 1847 violin tutor, which seems likely to have been Ryan's source for the reel.
