PUCK'S SCOTCH REEL. AKA and see "Leap Year (1)." American (?), Scottish?; Reel (2/4 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABA. The first part is similar to, perhaps cognate with, the first parts of "Connaught Reel (4) (A)," "Lucy Campbell (4)," "Reel of Bervie," "Lord Gordon's Reel". The second strains melodically differ, although are harmonically similar. Howe's published "Puck's Scotch Reel" in his Musician's Omnibus Nos. 6 & 7" (1880-1882) around the same time as it was issued under the title "Leap Year (1)]]" in another Howe company publication, Ryan's Mammoth Collection (1883), finds Fr. John Quinn, who categorizes both tunes as variants of the older "Lucy Campbell."
