"Lady Jane Dunbar's Reel" was composed by Elgin fiddler-composer biography:Donald Grant and was published in his Collection of Strathspeys, Reels, Jigs, &c. (1820-21). The title may refer to Lady Dunbar who was born Helen Coull (1796-1888), daughter of James Coull MD, of Ashgrove, Elgin, and became Lady Dunbar on marrying Sir James Dunbar (1770-1836) of Boath, 1st Baronet, in 1814. At the time Sir James was also known as Captain Sir James Dunbar RN, 1st. Bt. Boath. Donald Grant composed several tunes for the Dunbar branch members of Boath and Northfield.
